AMPAS to host foreign pic noms event

Program to take place Feb. 24

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will host the Foreign Language Film Award Nominees Symposium featuring filmmakers Guillermo del Toro (Mexico's "Pan's Labyrinth"), Deepa Mehta (Canada's "Water"), Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (Germany's "The Lives of Others"), Susanne Bier (Denmark's "After the Wedding") and Rachid Bouchareb (Algeria's "Days of Glory").

The two-hour, SRO event will feature clips from the nominated films and an audience Q&A moderated by Oscar-winning producer and FLFA executive committee chair Mark Johnson.

The program will take place 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Free advance tickets will be available Thursday at the Academy's ticket office, 8949 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills; there's a limit of two tickets per person.

The 79th Academy Awards will be held Feb. 25 at the Kodak Theater and broadcast live on ABC.
