Geffen sets Wasserstein play

'Best Is Yet to Come' also set for fall

The Geffen Playhouse has set two works for its 2007-08 season -- the West Coast premiere of Wendy Wasserstein's final play and a world premiere musical co-conceived by Larry Gelbart and David Zippel.

Gelbart-Zippel tuner "The Best Is Yet to Come" uses the music of Cy Coleman to tell a collection of stories in song. "Best" begins previews on Nov. 20, opens Nov. 28 and runs through Jan. 6.

Wasserstein's "Third," which debuted at the Lincoln Center Theater in October 2005, will open the Geffen season on Sept. 19. "Third" begins previews on Sept. 11 and runs through Oct. 28.

The remaining three plays on the main stage and the programming for the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater will be announced later.
