Singapore's StarHub adds five channels

CNN Headline News, FX joining family tier

HONG KONG -- Singapore's dominant cabler StarHub Digital Cable will add five channels to its roster Thursday, giving its 478,000 customers more than 100 nets.

Time Warner's CNN Headline News and Fox Intl. Channels' FX join the family tier. Channel V China, Channel V Taiwan and TTV World all join the Chinese Plus II tier at no extra charge.

StarHub is the city-state's only cable player. However, Singapore is opening up pay-TV and this month granted the first full license to an IPTV player (Variety, Jan 16). New channel additions are a response to potential competition.

Tuesday's announcement is the third boost to StarHub's line-up in as many months. It also takes over rights to English Premier League soccer in June.
