Paramount taps top tech exec

Bell to fill newly created post

Paramount has hired its first chief technology officer, tapping former Warner Bros. techie Alan Bell for the newly created post.

Bell will oversee the studio's tech strategy, including digital distribution and antipiracy efforts. He's expected to work closely with units including the new Paramount Digital Entertainment, as well as homevideo and television, on new business opportunities including HD DVD and Internet downloads.

He reports to prexy of marketing, distribution and home entertainment Rob Moore.

Bell previously was exec veep of advanced technology for WB, where he had similar responsibilities and also worked extensively on cross-industry standards.
