Gambino exits at MTV Networks

Exec was leading new media initiatives in the U.K.

LONDON — Angel Gambino, MTV Networks high-profile U.K. digital topper, has left the company after only 16 months.

Gambino, who joined MTV from the BBC in September 2005, was spearheading some of the outfit's key new media initiatives including launching video-on-demand service MTV Overdrive and the user-generated channel MTV Flux.

Her job as vice president of commercial strategy and digital media will be split into three new roles covering digital media, commercial and strategy as part of MTV Network's evolving digital program.

It seems that the highly regarded Gambino, a regular at London media talking shops but conspicuously absent from a panel at last week's Oxford Media Convention, does not have another gig lined up at this stage.

As controller of business development and emerging platforms at the BBC she oversaw the development of broadband and mobile applications for the pubcaster's TV and radio stations.
