Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce with Solomon.
Studio has greenlit the film for a summer start and will secure a director within two weeks. Pic figures to be the next Murphy vehicle after he completes the Fox comedy "Starship Dave."
Murphy, Oscar nommed for "Dreamgirls," will play a successful financial exec who suddenly loses his confidence and finds his career going down the drain. He discovers the answers to his problems within the imaginary world created by his daughter.
Solomon drew the idea from his own life after his young son came up with a suggestion that solved a business problem Solomon was puzzling over. Solomon penned the script with Matheson, his writing partner on "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey." The pair set up the project as a pitch (Daily Variety, March 8).
"We liked the idea of Eddie playing a role he hasn't played before," said di Bonaventura. "He showed a bit of that vulnerability in 'Dreamgirls,' but this gives him the opportunity to tap into that reservoir of talent."
Deal gives Paramount a chance to keep Murphy in the fold after he made "Dreamgirls," the upcoming "Norbit" and May's "Shrek the Third" for sister studio DreamWorks.
