Arts minister John O'Donoghue announced the increased subsidy, which amounts to about $27 million a year, as part of the government's national development plan for 2007 to 2013.
"Increased funding will be made available to the Irish Film Board to enable the IFB to continue its role of developing and supporting the Irish film sector, marketing Ireland as a film location through the newly opened office in Los Angeles and raising the profile of the Irish audiovisual industry abroad," O'Donoghue said.
He also said his department will review the way the subsidy coin is spent, "to make it more responsive to current conditions in the marketplace."
IFB chairman James Morris said, "The integrated approach of the government in providing direct funding to the Irish Film Board, together with indirect support in the form of its ongoing commitment to Section 481, the Irish film tax incentive, is a positive platform for Irish filmmakers to increase the number and quality of Irish films and to compete successfully at home and abroad."
