French films set bows

Rendez-Vous to take place Feb. 28-March 11

Rendez-Vous With French Cinema, an annual showcase of French filmmaking, has been set for Feb. 28-March 11 at Gotham's Walter Reade Theater and at the IFC Center.

Series will present 16 new French films, all making their U.S. debuts, launching Feb. 28 with Olivier Dahan's biopic of French chanteuse Edith Piaf, "La Vie en rose." Movie will open Berlin's film festival Feb. 8.

Francis Veber's "The Valet," starring Daniel Auteuil, Kristin Scott Thomas, Alice Taglioni and Gad Elmaleh, will close the series March 11.

Other pics in the series include works from Rendez-Vous veterans Guillaume Canet and Catherine Corsini and thesps Francois Cluzet, Jean Rochefort, Karin Viard, Guy Marchand, Julie Depardieu and Melanie Laurent.

Tickets go on sale Feb. 12.
