Comedian, musician, Oscar-winning actor. Now Jamie Foxx is trying his hand at radio.
The "Dreamgirls" thesp is launching an urban comedy, entertainment and lifestyle channel with Sirius Satellite Radio this spring called "The Foxxhole."
Foxx will serve as executive producer, on-air host and contributor to the channel, which will feature comedic sketches, talk, radio theater and music.
Co-exec producing will be Marcus King, who was a producer on skein "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "Jamie Foxx: Unpredictable," among other TV specials.
" 'The Foxxhole' will break new ground in comedy, blurring the lines between standup, sketch and music," Foxx said. The channel "gives me the opportunity to create urban entertainment and programming like you have never heard on the radio."
Foxx will contribute daily in the form of dispatches from wherever he is in the world. Right now, he's on tour in support of "Unpredictable," his 2006 debut from J Records.
Foxx and a team of contributors also will host a weekly show. As with other celebrity-driven satellite radio offerings, that show will get multiple airings throughout the week.
Sirius execs said the show will feature original comedy and what it described as "a new approach to radio theater."
"Jamie Foxx is a triple threat in the world of entertainment, and we are thrilled to have him make his radio home at Sirius," said Sirius entertainment prexy Scott Greenstein.
Foxx started his career in standup comedy and as a member of the cast of Fox's "In Living Color."
Foxx joins a growing list of celebrities and entertainers who have brought their names and talent to satellite radio, including Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey, Eminem, Bob Dylan and the Who.
