NAACP lauds Bono's work

U2 front man to receive Chairman's Award

U2 front man and activist Bono will receive the NAACP Chairman’s Award at the 38th NAACP Image Awards.

"Bono has been an inspiration to many people around the world through his music and humanitarian efforts," NAACP board chairman Julian Bond said. "We are delighted to honor him with this award in recognition of the difference he has made."

Bono last year helped launch Product, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS crisis in Africa. He was one of Time magazine’s Persons of the Year in 2005 and will be awarded an honorary British knighthood later this year.

Other NAACP honorees include Bill Cosby and Soledad O’Brien, who will receive the Hall of Fame Award and the President’s Award, respectively. The NAACP Image Awards will air live March 2 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
