NBC gives early renewals to hits

'Office,' 'Earl,' `Heroes,' 'L&O: SVU' set for next season

NBC has renewed "The Office," "My Name Is Earl," "Heroes" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" for the 2007-08 season.

News is not unexpected, especially for newcomer "Heroes," which is the breakout drama hit of the fall season, No. 1 in the 18-49 demo among rookie series.

"The Office" has been a critical hit since its inception and won the Emmy as top comedy. Ratings-wise, it's up 20% from its timeslot last year in 18-49.

"These four series represent some of the best of what we consider to be the NBC brand of quality shows," said Peacock topper Kevin Reilly. "It is a pleasure to give them an early renewal to develop more stories for next year since we know they will remain both critical and commercial successes for a long time to come."
