According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, the "64th Annual Golden Globes Awards" averaged a 6.5 rating/15 share in adults 18-49 and 20 million viewers overall from 8 to 11 p.m., with minor adjustments possible in the nationals since the kudocast extended about 8 minutes beyond primetime. This year's prelim average is 3% higher than last year's 6.3 rating when the show also aired on a Monday and the best since a 9.9 rating in 2004 (on a Sunday).
The Globes gave NBC its highest-rated non-Olympics Monday in adults 18-49 since May 2004, and its highest in total viewers since May 1999. Net won the evening in 18-49, 25-54, 18-34, total viewers and all key female demos.
Fox's two-hour "24" averaged a sturdy 5.9/13 in 18-49 and 15.7 million viewers overall -- down a tick in the demo and up slightly in total viewers vs. the corresponding night a year ago. Fox won the night in key male demos.
ABC also had something to crow about, as its unscripted combo of "Wife Swap" (3.7/9 in 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) and "Supernanny" (3.9/9 in 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall) both achieved season highs. But "What About Brian" (2.2/5 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) remains a laggard at 10.
CBS was paced by repeats of "CSI: Miami" (3.5/9 in 18-49, 11.9 million viewers overall) and "Two and a Half Men" (3.5/8 in 18-49, 11.3 million viewers overall) and an original seg of "Old Christine" (3.2/7 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall).
