MADRID — Spanish helmer Antonio Cuadri, whose "Heart of the Earth" closes March's Miami Film Festival, is finalizing romantic comedy "Women's Secret."
Budget is in the $13 million-$15 million range, toward the high end for a Spanish pic.
It will feature a U.S. cast, said Juan Carlos Orihuela, who produces for Manufacturas Audiovisuales alongside Cuadri.
The English-language film turns on the rekindling of romance between a U.S. ambassador to Spain and his wife during their term of duty in Madrid. A subplot deals with the misadventures of the couple's young socialite daughter.
Project was unveiled by Madrid Mayor Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon at the first Madrid Solidarity Film Festival, which runs Monday to Sunday.
Backed by the Madrid Town Hall and supported by Spain's Fapae producers' org, fest bowed with Phillip Noyce's "Catch a Fire," which brought Tim Robbins to Madrid to present the South Africa political drama.
The festival aims to project a positive image of immigration and to support sexual equality and social solidarity, Ruiz-Gallardon said.
Its 13-pic competish casts a spotlight on socio-political issues. Ten films will receive their Spanish preems at the fest. Parallel events include three exhibitions and solidarity-themed shorts helmed by young Spanish directors during the festival.
