Hansen creates playwright showcase

Program is part of Theater Masters organization

Julia Hansen, former head of the Drama League, has created a showcase for up-and-coming playwrights similar to the Directors Project, the program she founded for the League in 1984.

For the first National "Play Right" MFA 10-minute play competition and program, graduate dramatists from nine universities -- including Columbia, NYU, UCLA and UC San Diego -- submitted short works to be judged by Hansen, John Guare and Lane Savadove, associate a.d. of Philly's EgoPo.

Panel will choose one writer from each school, and selected playwrights will be flown to Aspen, Colo., on Jan. 19 for a weekend during which they will workshop their scripts, participate in panels and see their short plays staged in a production titled "Take Ten."

Program is part of Hansen's org Theater Masters. She aims to produce "Take Ten" both in Philadelphia and in Gotham.
