Starz aligned for Taylor

Praiser named VP of publicity

NEW YORK -- John Malone's Starz Media has hired Jonathan Taylor as its vice president of publicity.

Taylor was at PR firm the Lippin Group.

Malone has brought in Chris McGurk, the former head of MGM, to take over theatrical-movie division Overture Films that plans to commission and distribute upwards of 12 pics a year. Starz Media owns IDT Entertainment, which produces the "Masters of Horror" series on Showtime; animation houses Film Roman and Manga Entertainment; and DVD distributor Anchor Bay Entertainment.

During Taylor's two-year stint at Lippin, he managed the accounts of Starz and Tribune Entertainment, among other clients.

Before Lippin, Taylor was the editor for TV and home-entertainment coverage with the Los Angeles Times. He started with Daily Variety in 1992 as managing editor and rose to executive editor, leaving in 2001.
