Hartenstein given Acad's lifetime achievement honor

Former DirecTV vice chairman Eddy Hartenstein was given the TV Acad's lifetime achievement honor, for his role in building up DirecTV, Monday at CES. The 58th annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards was held at CES for the first time, with the ceremony at the Venetian Resort. Hartenstein said, "I hope that television can benefit from what we did. I will always bleed DirecTV blue."

Television Acad prexy-CEO Peter Price greeted the audience of more than 400, about three times last year's crowd count. Price praised the technology and engineering professionals for "their significant impact in enhancing the consumer viewer experience."

Twenty-five Emmys were presented in 16 categories representing achievements in broadcast and digital TV. The TV Academy hopes to make this an annual CES event.
