Hayes
Dade Hayes, until recently a writer-editor at Entertainment Weekly, is joining
Variety as assistant managing editor, based in New York. Hayes had previously been a reporter and editor for
Variety, based in Los Angeles.
"We are delighted to welcome Hayes back to
Variety," Peter Bart, editor in chief, said. "His savvy in the areas of finance and film make him a valuable addition to our staff."
Hayes had earlier worked for the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press. He co-wrote the 2004 book "Open Wide: How Hollywood Box Office Became a National Obsession," and is working on a book for Free Press, a division of Simon & Schuster, about the impact of advertising and entertainment on young children.
