BEIJING -- Blues guitarist Eric Clapton will become the latest rock legend to try to tap the growing Chinese market when he plays Shanghai this month.
Clapton will play the Shanghai Grand Stage, where the similar-vintage Rolling Stones made their China debut in April. Ticket prices will run from $40 for the upper balcony to $230 for stage-side seats.
The aud is expected to be largely composed of the city's well-heeled expatriates, as Western guitar music remains a relatively unknown quantity in China.
A number of Western acts have been in Shanghai in recent months, including Black-Eyed Peas, the late James Brown and Elton John, although vaunted shows by Robbie Williams and Jay-Z failed to materialize.
