A suspicious-looking bag found opposite the road from one of Bangkok's biggest cinema complexes contained clothes and pornographic vcds, not a bomb as initially feared.
The bomb squad was dispatched to Paholyothin Road on 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a black bag placed in front of a hair salon opposite from Major Cineplex Rachayothin. Nearly 10 suspicious objects were reportedly found at various crowded spots in Bangkok throughout Wednesday, including two schools and the office of an English-language newspaper. But all turned out to be hoaxes.
Police sprayed high-pressured water gun at the bag found near the cinema complex. They later opened the bag to find clothes and 10 video disc containing porn materials.
A press screening of the Japanese film 'Ghost Train' was about to take place inside Major Rachayothin when the bag was discovered. Once the police identified that it carried no explosive, the press screening continued as planned.
The incident was an aftermath of the six bombings that took place at various crowded spot in Bangkok on the night of the New Year's Eve, killing three people and left 30 injured.
