DirectTV adds some Style

Satellite provider surpasses 50 million subscribers

DirecTV subscribers will now be offered a dose of Style as an antidote to the barrage of those cubic zirconium-hawking shopping channels they flip past every day.

The top satellite TV provider has added Style Network to its lineup, pushing the Comcast-owned cabler past the 50 million subscriber mark.

Style is a spinoff of sibling E! Entertainment Television, first launched in 1998. Channel continues to grow its ratings, averaging 64,000 total viewers in November -- its best-ever perf, up 18% vs. the previous year.

Style net "will give DirecTV viewers an in-depth look into the world of fashion, design, interior decorating and urban lifestyles," said DirecTV programming acquisitions exec VP Dan Fawcett.

DirecTV will offer Style as part of its "Total Choice Plus" programming package.

Cabler was previously seen by 42 million subs. Channel programming includes shows hosted by Finola Hughes, Niecy Nash and Isaac Mizrahi.
