'Museum' tops box office with $37.8 million

With a whopping per playdate average of $10,000-plus, off 3,768, pic's cume now stands at $116.8 million after just two frames.
Pic should pack further punch with the extended holiday frame this weekend which is up from last year so far.
Sony's Will Smith-starrer "The Pursuit of Happyness" neared the $100 million mark in its third weekend of release. No. 2 pic's three-day take over the current frame was $19.3 million. Cume rests at $98.3 million.
Paramount and DreamWorks' big-screen musical "Dreamgirls" continued to step up at the B.O.: Pic in its first full frame playing in 852 danced to $15.5 million over three-days and landed in the third spot. Pic has cumed $38.5 million to date.
Top three pics were all holdovers during a weekend in which few wide studio releases rollout. Nine of the ten top pics over the frame had bumps in biz as auds turned out for New Year's weekend.
Other notables included Par's G-rated "Charlotte's Web," which got a 17% bump in bi z to raise its cume to $52.8 million.
In the limited game, Fox Searchlight's "Notes on a Scandal" was a winner: Pic played to a per screen average of more than $18,500 in 22 locations.
MGM's "Miss Potter" played two screens for a three-day bow of $9,047 and a per screen average $4,537.
