The Critics' Choice Awards, presented by the Korea Film Critics Society since 1980, was the second ceremony to bestow its top nod upon "Family Ties," following the Busan Film Critics Awards in October.
Drawing acting kudos were Ahn Sung-ki for "Radio Star" and actress Jang Jin-young for "Blue Swallow," also prized for cinematography.
Other winners included gangster epic "A Dirty Carnival" (director), period drama "Forbidden Quest" (screenplay, new director and art direction), as well as low-budget pics "Ad Lib Night" (new actress) and "No Regrets" (new actor).
Meanwhile, the ninth Directors' Cut Awards, an informal round of kudos voted on by film helmers, honored Hong Sang-soo as director of the year for "Woman on the Beach." After screening at Toronto, pic has been slotted into the Panorama section of the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.
Other awards included an acting prize to the cast of Bong Joon-ho's "The Host"; new director to Son Jae-gon for "My Scary Girl"; independent director to Leesong Hee-il for "No Regrets"; new actress to Choo Ja-hyun of "Bloody Tie"; new actor to Ryu Deok-hwan of "Like a Virgin"; and producer to Chungeorahm's Choi Yong-bae for "The Host."
