Previously vice president, he has served on the New York-based company's board of directors since 1979.
He also will be chairman of the board of Samuel French London, the British subsidiary, and Baker's Plays.
Embry previously was in charge of the West Coast regional offices of Samuel French, including its retail bookstores in Hollywood and Studio City, and was responsible for developing the stores into the largest performing arts bookstores in the world.
Samuel French has offices in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and London.
