DreamWorks Animation disclosed in an SEC filing Wednesday that it is no longer restricted from "engaging in any theme park activities" with companies other than Universal Studios.
Previously, as part of its separation agreement with DreamWorks Studios when the toon powerhouse went public in fall 2004, DWA was required to work only with U's theme-park division.
Steven Spielberg, one of the founders of DreamWorks and a major shareholder in DWA, got 2% of the gross from Universal Studios theme-parks revenue. According to the SEC filing, he personally gave permission to DWA to work with other theme parks.
Toon studio apparently had properties that U didn't want to turn into rides, and so it wants to shop them to other theme parks.
Universal Studios parks in Hollywood, Orlando and Japan all feature a "Shrek 4-D" attraction based on the DreamWorks Animation character.
