Mainland Chinese multi-hyphenate Xu Jinglei has been cast as the femme lead in Warner China Film HG's $40 million co-production "Ci ma," now lensing near Beijing.

Pic, which has the English-language working title "Violent Land," already boasts a heavyweight cast including Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro. Helmed by Peter Chan Ho-sun, "Ci ma" is co-produced by a consortium including Media Asia Films, China Film Group, Morgan & Chan Films, Beijing PolyBona Film Distribution, Chengtian Entertainment and Stellar Mega Film.

Mainland Chinese distribution will be handled by China Film Group, while Media Asia Distribution and ARM Distribution handle international sales.

Xu next appears alongside Kaneshiro in Media Asia's "Confession of Pain," which is being released Thursday in Hong Kong.
