Granada fest bows

The first Granada Film Festival "Cines del Sur," directed by Jose Sanchez-Montes, will bow June 9-17.

Fest will feature pics from Africa, Latin America and Asia and will include a tribute to Egyptian helmer Youssef Chahine. A panorama, "China: 21st Century," will focus on pics by Chinese helmers such as Jia Zhangke and Zhang Yuan from 1996 to the present.

Granada "Cines del Sur's" Golden Alhambra award for best pic in its main competition comes with a cash prize of e50,000 ($66,000). Best director wins a Silver Alhambra and $39,600; and the third prize, the Bronze Alhambra, is worth $26,4000.
