"IPTV could get a head start next year in China," Huang Dabin, VP of the network division of China's No. 2 telco equipment maker ZTE Corp., told the China Daily.
IPTV offers live TV and video-on-demand delivered over ADSL broadband Internet, and fixed-line operators China Telecom and China Netcom have been aggressively building trial IPTV networks since last year.
This year, some commercial IPTV services have been operating in Shanghai and other cities.
China had 370 million fixed-line phone subscribers, 449 million mobile phone subscribers and 49.8 million broadband Internet users as of October.
However, China's broadcasting regulators are promoting digital TV, which could work against the growth of IPTV.
