In the newly created position, Ware will focus on targeting new business alliances for UTA and bringing new financial partners into the agency fold, particularly in new media.
He'll work closely with head of digital media Brent Weinstein, who runs the agency's new UTA Online division, and report to UTA board member Jeremy Zimmer.
"There's some interesting money out there that wants to be a part of things," said Ware, who's already identified several venture capitalists interested in funding a medium-sized Internet business. "It's about finding the right alliances, picking up the right financial partners, teeing up the right advertising partners and the right distribution partners."
With consolidation taking place on the Web (such as News Corp.'s MySpace acquisition and Google's purchase of YouTube), there's room for a middle tier of online content distribution, Ware said.
Ware was recruited to UTA by Zimmer, who said he was looking for an exec with operational experience to help develop the online biz.
Ware joins UTA from consulting firm Broadband 75, where he served as managing director. There he worked with companies including AOL, Comcast and Liberty Media.
Before that, he served as chief operating officer at UPN for almost four years.
