NTT mobilizes Kadokawa content

Partners to develop range of mobile media

TOKYO -- Mobile phone giant NTT DoCoMo announced Tuesday that it will take a 3.78% stake worth ¥4 billion ($34.5 million) in Kadokawa Group Holdings, parent of the Kadokawa media group, on Dec. 12.

The partners intend to develop mobile content from Kadokawa books, comics and films, as well as make original content, such as clips promoting Kadokawa pics, for DoCoMo users, with the possibility of expanding release to other media platforms.

Beginning June 30, DoCoMo users also will be able to buy film tickets at the 92 screens Kadokawa manages at 11 multiplexes.

DoCoMo will also partner with Kadokawa in pic production, though titles have not yet been decided.

Kadokawa's core business is publishing, but it has long been involved in pics and other visual content businesses.

Group companies include distribs and producers Asmik Ace Entertainment and Kadokawa Herald Pictures.
