Acquisition trawl led by trio of pics sold by Hanway Films

Pushing out the boat on a wide range of buys, from crossover to art films to genre pics, Barcelona boutique distributor Notro Films has closed rights for Spain on 10 titles shopped at this month's American Film Market.

The acquisition trawl is led by a trio of pics sold by Hanway Films: young Jane Austen bio "Becoming Jane," toplining Anne Hathaway ("The Devil Wears Prada"); Canadian actress Sarah Polley's directorial debut, "Away From Her"; and Terry Gilliam's "Tideland."

Notro also has closed two titles from Japan's Shochiku, an established Notro supplier: the third part of Yoji Yamada's Samurai trilogy, "Love and Honor," and Takeshi Furusawa's contempo chiller "Ghost Train."

Myriad Pics has licensed Spanish rights to Notro on the Oscar Wilde adaptation "A Woman of No Importance," a period turn for Pierce Brosnan and Annette Bening, while Notro picked up Michael Rapaport starrer "Special" from Fabrication Films.

Notro's AFM shopping spree, which confirms it as one of Spain's most prolific buyers for non-mainstream titles, is completed by three movies from Canada-based Horizon: "One Missed Call: Final," the last part of the Japanese horror saga; Canadian Trent Carlson's "The Delicate Art of Parking"; and Ham Tran's U.S./Thai production "Journey From the Fall," turning on Vietnamese boat people.
