Andy Ostroy said the foundation will launch with a women's filmmaking scholarship. Award is aimed in particular at femme filmmakers who made the jump from acting to directing, as Shelly did.
Other awards will also be announced, Ostroy said.
Indie actress Shelly was found dead in her apartment earlier this month in what police first ruled a suicide but later declared murder. A suspect is being held.
Shelly is known for starring in a number of Hal Hartley Films, as well as recent Matt Dillon starrer "Factotum." She also just wrapped "Waitress," a film she directed, which is in post.
