Kretschmann to play Eichmann

$6 mil co-prod'n to be shot in Hungary

MUNICH — Following his perf as a sexually-motivated cannibal in "Rothenburg," Thomas Kretschmann ("The Pianist," "Resident Evil: Apocalypse") is to play Nazi mass murderer Adolf Eichmann.

Helmed by Robert Young ("Young Indiana Jones Chronicles," "Fierce Creatures"), "Eichmann" is based on the confession of the SS officer in charge of the logistics of the Holocaust.

Eichmann was captured by the Israeli secret service after the war and put on trial in Israel. Before his execution he was cross-examined by Israeli police officer Captain Avner Less.

This cross-examination forms the centerpiece of the pic but plot will also include flashbacks to the 1940s.

Less will played by Troy Garity, who appears in the Danny Boyle helmed "Sunshine." Franka Potente ("Bourne Identity") and Stephen Fry ("V for Vendetta," "Wilde") also star.

Principal photography is set to start in Budapest on Nov. 20, with further scenes to be shot in Malta.

Concentration camp scenes will be shot in Hungary on the set of Lajos Koltai's "Fateless."

"Eichmann" is a $6 million U.K.-Hungarian co-production between Brit outfit E-Motion and Hungarian co-producer MCC Media. Karl Richards, Peter Bevan and Jozsef Cirko produce.

Belgian tax fund MIT is providing coin as is a private investor in the U.K.

Eichmann has previously been portrayed by Robert Duvall in TNT's made for TV pic "The Man Who Captured Eichmann."
