DreamWorks has brought on "Used Guys" writing duo David Guion and Michael Handelman to work on the script for laffer "Dinner With Schmucks," a remake of French hit "Le Diner de cons" that Cohen is eyeing to star in.
Cohen has been attached to the project for several years, with different writers working on the screenplay, including TV scribe Jon Vitti, who wrote for Cohen's HBO skein "Da Ali G Show."
In the Gallic pic, a Paris publisher urges his friends to invite the most pathetic people possible to his weekly dinner party. In the English-language remake, Cohen would play a guest so full of "schmuckiness" that he ruins the lives of anyone who comes into his orbit.
Walter Parks and Laurie McDonald are producing.
Guion and Handelman wrote the upcoming Zach Braff-Amanda Peet romantic comedy "Fast Track," which MGM releases Dec. 29 for the Weinstein Co.
Writing partners also penned the screenplay for the stalled Ben Stiller-Jim Carrey comedy "Used Guys," based on an original draft by Micky Birnbaum. Fox pulled the plug on the big-budget laffer citing budget concerns.
Handelman and Guion are repped by UTA and Brillstein-Grey.
