NEW YORK -- Election night this year is about the wingmen, the political hands the networks are bringing in to lend some perspective and gravitas to what's expected to be a long and confusing night.
Katie Couric will have Bob Schieffer; Charlie Gibson has George Stephanopolous; Brian Williams will have Tom Brokaw.
Jon Stewart? In a twist, he's got Dan Rather, who otherwise would have spent this election night on the sidelines for the first time in more than 40 years.
As anchor of CBS' "Evening News," Rather became famous for his off-the-cuff election night colloquialisms such as "This race is hotter than a Times Square Rolex."Rather joins Stewart as part of one-hour Comedy Central special "Indecision 2006: The Midterm Midtacular." Other guests joining the show will be Warren Beatty by phone and Reps. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).
