He hasn't changed much since then. There's still something boyish about his restless enthusiasm, his tousled appearance, his compulsive frankness and his lack of social polish.
Although Bevan and Eric Fellner are heavily involved in one another's projects and never publicly identify how they split the production slate between them, it's no secret that the recent spate of "political" dramas -- "United 93," "Catch a Fire," "The Golden Age," "The Interpreter" -- all belonged to Bevan. After a decade of success built on crowdpleasing comedy, there's a sense that he's determined to use WT's hard-won clout to make movies that strike both a visceral and intellectual chord.
"I hope we go on to take big risks," he says. "Right now there seems to be a huge demand for a bit more reality, and we are definitely able to make those movies at a bigger scale, with decent movie stars."
