Shaw Bros. classics head to Mideast

760 film library will be distributed in 64 countries

Classics from the Shaw Bros. library are heading to the Middle East through a deal with Viva Entertainment.

Astro's Celestial Pictures and Viva will launch the Chinese pics on homevideo in eight Middle Eastern countries: Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. With this deal, the library, which is owned by Celestial and includes 760 films, will be distributed in 64 countries.

Viva's entertainment division, formerly known as Video Master, will have the rights to distribute 60 Shaw Brothers' pictures from the 1970's and 80s in VHS, VCD and DVD formats.

Viva is located in the Dubai Free Trade Zone at Jebel Ali.
