Brady at QB for Atomic

Helmer tackles 'Comebacks'

Fox Atomic has tapped Tom Brady to helm sports comedy "The Comebacks," the first project developed from the ground up at the fledgling studio division.

Fox Atomic is still honing an identity after its launch late last year. With projects like "Comebacks," horror sequel "28 Days Later" and an update of "Revenge of the Nerds" on its initial development slate, label is emerging as a home to genre pics that will skew young and can be produced on modest budgets.

"Comebacks" will star David Koechner as the losing-est football coach in the history of the sport, who goes for a shot at redemption with a ragtag college team.

Peter Abrams, Robert L. Levy and Andrew Panay are producing under their Tapestry Films banner. Brady and Kevin Sabbe wrote the latest draft of the script; Sabbe also is producing.

Brady's helming credits include Rob Schneider pics "The Animal" and "The Hot Chick." He got his start in television, working on shows including "The Simpsons," "Sports Night" and "The Critic."

Koechner's film credits include "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," "Snakes on a Plane" and "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy."
