LONDON — Fien Troch's quirky whodunit "Someone Else's Happiness" will represent Belgium in the race for the best foreign language Academy Award.
The Dutch-lingo pic revolves around the hit-and-run killing of a child in a close-knit village outside Brussels. It is 28-year-old Troch's debut feature.
Pic has been well received on the international fest circuit. Awards to date include the Golden Alexander for best film at Thessaloniki.
A committee consisting of distributors, producers, helmers and critics from Belgium's Flemish and French-speaking communities chose the submission Friday.
Other hotly-tipped titles included Lucas Belvaux' French-language "La raison du plus faible" and Flemish Frank Van Mechelen's "Tangier."
