Russian brides pic elopes to Warners

Phillips to produce pic for WB

Todd Phillips' production shingle has set up the untitled Russian brides project, which was put into turnaround by Miramax, at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Phillips inked a first-look deal with Warners earlier this year. Previously, he had a production pact with Dimension Films. After its divorce from Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Miramax decided not to pursue the Brides project, with the rights reverting to the Todd Phillips Co.

Based on David Benioff's 2002 article "Goodbye to Romance," published in Arena magazine, storyline revolves around a group of American men who travel through Russia searching for brides. Another writer will likely be brought in to work on an early script by E. Max Frye.

Phillips is producing, with Benioff and 3Arts Entertainment's Tom Lassally exec producing. Scott Budnick, exec VP of the Todd Phillips Co., will shepherd.

As with any project developed by his shingle, Phillips could ultimately sign on to direct.

Phillips most recently helmed and produced "School for Scoundrels" for Dimension. MGM will release the pic later this month per its output deal with the Weinstein Co.

Phillips also exec produced Sony's "All the King's Men," which opens Friday.
