Timberlake to host MTV Euro Awards

Event to be broadcast live from Copenhagen

Justin Timberlake will host this year's MTV Europe Music Awards on Nov. 2 in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

As usual, the event will be broadcast live, with MTV commandeering two sites in the city — the Bella Center and Radhuspladsen Town Square — to stage the event.

Nominations for the awards are led by Red Hot Chili Peppers, which feature in four categories — album, group, rock and song — while Madonna, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera, Kanye West and Muse are each close behind with three noms.

Timberlake, who is also set to perform at the event, has two nominations — male and pop. Launching the 13th EMAs today, he said: "I'm working on several ideas with MTV at the moment and there are some great new interactive parts to the show."

Early performance confirmations include Muse and Nelly Furtado. Others will be announced in the weeks leading up to the ceremony, which is MTV's most widely distributed awards show globally, with a potential viewing audience of 1.4 billion people.

The show's executive producer, Richard Godfrey, said: "With a diverse slate of nominees representing the most popular local and global artists, this year's show will be a dynamic multi-screen experience offering audiences tailored show elements on TV, PC and mobile screens."

With no fewer than 30 categories of awards up for grabs, all but two of the gongs (the video and the Free Your Mind awards) are voted for by MTV's audiences.
