Besson calls it a day

Tenth pic 'Arthur' will be his last, helmer says

PARIS — Luc Besson said Monday that his Euros 62 million ($79 million) 3D and live action film "Arthur," due for a Christmas release in France, will be his last film as a helmer.

Besson has said on several occasions that he would stop directing once he'd reached 10 films — and "Arthur," based on kids' books penned by the helmer, is his 10th.

"They are my 10 babies and I love them all. Now it's over," Besson told French radio RTL.

With no Disney pic scheduled for the Christmas holidays this year, Besson's film company EuropaCorp is hoping "Arthur" will attract the lion's share of the season's box office business.

Pic stars Freddie Highmore and Mia Farrow, with Madonna, Snoop Dogg and David Bowie among those providing voices for the English lingo version.

In France it will receive a wide release December 13.
