First announced project that Underground will produce for TWC is "Rising Son," a comedy pitch from scribe Martin Sweeney based on an idea by Underground production prexy William Lowery.
TWC co-prexy of production Michael Cole said Underground, led by Nick Osborne and Trevor Engelson, has "presented us with some incredibly funny and original material that we think will appeal to a broad audience." Cole and Osborne announced the pact, which includes an option to renew.
"Rising Son" revolves around a young American who proposes to his Japanese-American girlfriend just as they are traveling to visit her estranged family. He must complete a number of challenges in order to win the respect of her family -- in particular his future father-in-law.
Producers are Osborne and Engelson. Lowery will exec produce.
Underground recently completed production on "License to Wed" for Warner Bros. Pictures. Underground is producing the pic with Phoenix Pictures and the Robert Simonds Co.
Underground has a number of other projects set up at various studios, including "Wishworks" at Universal, "Coma" at Rogue, "Venus Kincaid" at Fox 2000 and "Soccer Mom" at New Line.
Before founding Underground, Osborne was VP of production at Phoenix.
