Inside Move: SAG gets organized with exec promotion

Guild ups Amorde amid exec shakeup

The Screen Actors Guild is promoting veteran exec Todd Amorde to national director of organizing.

Though the appointment hasn't been officially disclosed, the guild's expected to issue an official news release in the next few days. Amorde's served for the past three years as director of member education in Hollywood and two years as director of special projects.

Move follows a year that's seen departures of multiple senior execs at SAG, triggered by the national board's October sacking of four honchos, including exec director Greg Hessinger. Since then, contracts chief Sallie Weaver, general counsel David White and deputy national exec director of communications Seth Oster have left; former chief financial officer Peter Frank has been serving as interim exec director.

Since joining the SAG staff, Amorde has been active in the guild's Global Rule One campaign, which beefs up contract enforcement on overseas work. He also initiated SAG's national college and university outreach program and oversaw the membership application review committee.

Before joining SAG's staff in 2001, Amorde had been a 17-year member of SAG and AFTRA and appeared in 150 commercials. In 2000, he was a national board member chair of the joint SAG-AFTRA commercial contract campaign committee, which played an active role in organizing during the six-month strike against advertisers.

Prior to the strike, Amorde had served as chairman of SAG's national contract campaign committee and on the guild's board of directors. He was part of the Performers Alliance coalition that began gaining power in 1997 and then helped elect William Daniels as president in 1999.
