Carrey and Diaz will play an engaged Manhattan couple who devise an experiment to see how their friends feel about the relationship. They discover their friends believe them to be a poor match, and there are consequences.
Allan Loeb adapted a French play by Jean Dell and Gerald Sibleyras, and Liz Tuccillo wrote the most recent draft of the script. Alain Chabat, Stephanie Danan and Domenico Procacci are producing. Bruno Pesery is exec producer.
Pic, which reteams Carrey and Diaz for the first time since "The Mask," begins shooting in New York next month.
American film is the second for Muccino, the Italian director who made his Hollywood debut helming upcoming Columbia Pictures drama "The Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith.
For Carrey, the film fills the scheduling gap created by the shelving of two projects: Fox's Jay Roach-directed "Used Guys" and Paramount's Tim Burton-directed "Ripley's Believe It or Not." Carrey and Burton hope to return to the latter project once Burton has completed directing "Sweeney Todd" for DreamWorks and Warner Bros.
Carrey next stars in the Joel Schumacher-directed "The Number 23" for New Line. Diaz next stars in Nancy Meyers-directed romantic comedy "The Holiday" for Columbia Pictures. She also is reprising her voice duties in "Shrek the Third."
