In a last-minute scheduling switcheroo, NBC has decided to have new Wednesday laffers "20 Good Years" and Tina Fey starrer "30 Rock" switch timeslots. Latter skein will now lead off the night, with "20" airing at 8:30 p.m. as a lead-in to "The Biggest Loser."
NBC Entertainment prexy Kevin Reilly said the net simply wanted to give "Loser" the most compatible lead-in possible.
Even in the post-TiVo era, "Audience flow still helps, and it feels like '20 Good Years' is a better fit with 'Loser,' " Reilly told Daily Variety.
Reilly conceded that the young, upscale viewers "30 Rock" is targeting may be less available at 8 p.m.
"But I think it's an appointment show," he said, noting that "Lost" was able to find a big aud at 8 p.m. during its first season.
Reilly also hinted that both Wednesday comedies could ultimately end up airing from 9 to 10, particularly once ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" wraps its run.
"That's where I'd ultimately like to see them," he said.
Sked change means NBC is ditching a plan to double-pump "20" on Oct. 4. Instead, both it and "30 Rock" will premiere Oct. 11, giving NBC extra time to promote the laffers following the launch of the net's four new dramas.
