Story follows a college student who sets out to debunk the urban legend of the Mercy Killer -- a killer who makes his victims' deaths look like suicides -- only to discover that he is all too real and has chosen her as his next victim.
Intrepid's Katherine Brown brought the project into the shingle.
Chris Emerson will exec produce through his E-Squared banner.
Founded in 2005 by Trevor Macy and Marc Evans, Intrepid is a feature film production and co-financing company with a nonexclusive, first-look deal with Universal Pictures and Rogue Pictures. Shingle is backed by a consortium of institutional investors and a revolving credit facility led by JPMorgan Chase.
The first group of films produced by the Intrepid/Rogue partnership include Vondie Curtis Hall's "Waist Deep"; Robert Ben Garant's "Balls of Fury," starring George Lopez, Maggie Q and Christopher Walken; and Dave Meyers' remake of "The Hitcher," produced by Michael Bay and starring Sean Bean and Sophia Bush.
