Skein was set up at Fox last spring under the title "Show Me the Money" amid a gameshow bender that saw ABC, NBC and Fox each snap up a quizzer from Endemol (Daily Variety, May 2).
After a few months of development, Fox opted not to proceed with production on its project. The net declined to comment on its reasons, but Endemol USA topper David Goldberg said the studio "had an extremely amicable parting of the ways with Fox."
"ABC immediately jumped at the opportunity when the show became available, and we are now actively developing" it at the Alphabet, he said.
ABC had been in the bidding for "Show Me" when it originally came to market last spring, so the pickup isn't a surprise. Alphabet's most recent Endemol skein, "The One," was pulled after two weeks.
It's unclear how or if ABC will change the format of "Show Me," but when the project was at Fox, Endemol described it as a game that has players answering trivia questions and taking chances to rack up prize money. The twist: what Endemol called "a never-before-seen mechanism" that can reduce a contestant's winnings to zero or multiply it into the millions.
In addition to "Show Me," ABC is also moving forward with Endemol quizzer "Set for Life," in which players compete for a monthly stipend. Jimmy Kimmel is hosting (Daily Variety, Aug. 22).
