N.Y. fests set openers

'Infamous' to kick off festival

NEW YORK -- Douglas McGrath's "Infamous" will kick off the seventh Woodstock Film Festival, and Philip Haas' "The Situation" has been slated to open the 14th Hamptons Film Festival.

"Infamous," the second biopic on author Truman Capote to hit screens in just over a year, will unspool at Venice, Telluride and Toronto prior to the Woodstock fest, running Oct. 11-15.

Set during the writer's "In Cold Blood" period, pic stars British thesp Toby Jones as Capote and Sandra Bullock as author Harper Lee. Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Daniels and Sigourney Weaver also star.

Hamptons' "The Situation," set in present-day Iraq, is about a CIA operative, an American journalist and an Iraqi photographer. Connie Nielsen, Damian Lewis and Mido Hamada star.

Other competition highlights at the 14th Hamptons fest, running Oct. 18-22, include Sven Taddicken's "Emma's Bliss," Benjamin Niles' docu "Note by Note" and Hugo Latulippe and Francois Prevost's "What Remains of Us."
