Aussie rocker Nick Cave, who penned the script for "The Proposition"; former supermodel Helena Christensen, for her role in Danish drama "Allegro"; and Canada-born photographer Gregory Colbert, for his multimedia exhibition "Ashes and Snow" are among the nominees for the nod.
The winner will be announced Sept. 8 during a gala ceremony held in the 14th century Palazzo Grassi on the Piazza San Marco.
The other Gucci Group Award nominees are: Scotland's Douglas Gordon and Gaul's Philippe Parreno, for helming soccer docu "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait," and French writer Alain Robbe-Grillet, for helming "C'est gradiva qui vous appelle."
Noms were chosen by a committee including Venice artistic topper Marco Muller, Jeremy Irons, pop star Moby, British fashion designer Alexander McQueen and Italian art critic Alessandra Mammi. They will also pick the winner.
Venice's pact with Gucci follows its collaboration with Prada, which sponsors its retrospective, dedicated this year to "A Secret History of Soviet Cinema."
The Lido fest will open Wednesday with Brian De Palma's James Ellroy adaptation "The Black Dahlia" and runs through Sept. 9.
