Laxton lands 'Allotment'

Pathe Distribution will release pic in the U.K.

Richard Laxton will direct "The Allotment," a quirky comedy penned by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Carl Hunter and produced by Warp Films and Art in Action.

Pathe Distribution will release pic in the U.K., with Pathe Pictures Intl. handling international sales.

Story concerns a green-thumbed refugee family who face hostility from English locals when they're granted a plot of land to grow vegetables, called an allotment in Blighty.

The cast includes Benedict Wong, Eddie Marsan, Alan Williams, Philip Jackson, Omid Djalili, Sarah Hadland and Roland Manookian.

BBC Films, the U.K. Film Council's New Cinema Fund and regional screen agency North West Vision are financing partners on the pic, now shooting near Liverpool.

Laxton's London-set hip-hop drama "Life and Lyrics" world preems at the Edinburgh Film Festival this week.
